Any football lover who thinks that the best game played this season was the Man City versus Real Madrid semi-final first leg obviously hasn't been watching the mighty Wolvo!!!
Forget about Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and Kevin De Bruyne and start thinking about Mikey McGee, Jake Stott and Nathan Bayes who between them have scored a magnificent total of 82 goals so far this season. before a ball was kicked this term manager Chris Lax was determined to formulate an attacking team with speed and pace that would overpower most teams in the league and that is exactly what he got! In 45 games played so far a stunning total of 125 goals have been scored winning 26, drawing 7 and tasting defeat 12 times. The only drawback to registering all those goals were the amount we were conceding at the other end which amounted to 93. So, this meant on average we were scoring 2.77 goals every game and conceding 2.06! Chris took us all on 3 wonderful cup journeys managing to get through to the semi-finals in all of them and although the law of averages should have presented us with a final sadly it was not to be. The absolute icing on the cake was the fact of finishing in 5th position in the league and therefore standing a chance of gaining promotion and the facility of floodlights installation. We are now firmly in the lap of the Northern League gods to decide our future which we should find out before the end of May.
Today we finish our excellent season with a visit to Metcalfe Park of champions elect Chester Le Street United who at this present moment in time require only a point to pip Darlington Town and lift the League trophy. Whatever happens in today's game we wish Chester all the best for their future, they are a first-class outfit with a great friendly committee, talented players and knowledgeable coaches.
