Facing tough opposition in top of the table Willington AFC who have won 13 from 14 games Wolviston FC knew they were in for a tough game. With a weakened squad they did themselves proud with a determined effort of damage limitation by defending doggedly. The visitors started on the front foot and Adam Knowles tested keeper Alex Carey with an early effort which he saved comfortably. On 22 mins a deep cross from Knowles on the left found Lucas Baker at the far post to head powerfully into the net to give Willington the lead. Home keeper Carey in attempting to save injured his shoulder and had to be subbed with out fielder Keefe McGrath who became MOM taking over between the sticks. On 32 mins an accurate cross from the right by Joseph Scott was swept home by Jack Evans giving McGrath no chance to increase the visitors lead.
H.T. 0-2
Willington dominated from the restart with both Scott and Knowles missing reasonably easy chances. This was followed by sub Kieran Harnett heading over from a cross by Knowles. In reply a strong cross from Lewis Snaith was comfortably held by keeper Marc Boughy who was called into action for the first time in the 70th minute. This was followed with a powerful shot by Jamie Roberts which Boughy dealt with confidently. The last kick of the game fell to Elliott Mavi who blazed high over the bar from a good position. Even though this was a defeat the management team and committee were extremely proud of the effort that went in to keep the score reasonable against a first class footballing opposition.
