The Villagers record a fine 5-2 victory over strugglers Washington Athletic.

Bottom club Washington surprisingly started off on the front foot and Cory Smith headed over the bar after only 5 mins. Wolvo were forced into making an early substitution after defender Josh Thornton was cruelly chopped down and unable to carry on. Stewart Bath took his place. Jamie Roberts on 14 mins flashed a shot wide followed 3 mins later with the visitors taking the lead. A back pass was quickly intercepted by Callum Blair who cleverly rounded the keeper and registered a goal for the 5th game in succession. In reply Alex Carey in the Wolvo goal, making a welcome return after injury, made a tremendous save from Cameron Wallace. On 22 mins a strong drive by Lee Roberts was deflected into his own goal by defender Michael Groom to increase the visitors lead. Washington replied a minute later by hitting the post from a shot by Jacob Wall. On 32 mins confusion by Washington keeper Daniel Foster and his defence allowed Lee Roberts to score his 2nd of the game by slotting home a short angled drive. Some good football throughout the team was nearly rewarded again when Blair unleashed a vicious volley which was well saved by Foster. Lewis Snaith on 37 mins was put clear by Blair but he snatched at his shot and blazed over before he was subbed due to injury. Wolvo went 4-0 clear with 5 mins remaining after a corner by Alex Snaith was smashed home at the far post by David Johnson.
H.T. 0-4
A good team talk by the Washington coaching staff paid dividends with Washington scoring twice in 2 mins on 54 and 56 mins. A free kick conceded on the edge of the box was brilliantly driven into the top corner by Marcus Fox. This was followed with striker Ayra Kaffash taking advantage of a goal mouth scramble by poking home. With the wind in their sails the home side were hoping for some kind of miracle but the game was put to bed in the 80th min with Wolvo substitute Iwan Rhodes driving home with an angled shot.
